The International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009) will be a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture, marking the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first astronomical observations with a telescope. More than 125 countries will be participating in order to encourage worldwide interest in astronomy. The University of Minnesota Astronomy Department and the Minnesota Planetarium Society invite you to the IYA 2009 kick-off celebration.

ExploraDome programs
Telescope demonstrations by members of the Minnesota Astronomical Society, and stargazing if the weather cooperates
Hands-on astronomy activities
Events are indoors - Weather permitting, stargazing will be outdoors (dress accordingly!)
Open house events 5:30-7:30
7:30-8:30 - Live broadcast from planetariums around MN, the country and the world
Open to all ages
