MN SFS's Mission to Mars Display
March 7th, 2000

From acclaimed director Brian De Palma, MISSION TO MARS is a dramatic space adventure starring Gary Sinise, Don Cheadle, Connie Nielsen, Jerry O’Connell, and Tim Robbins. When the first manned mission to Mars meets with a catastrophic and mysterious disaster, a rescue mission is launched to investigate the tragedy and bring back any survivors. Exciting and realistic, MISSION TO MARS is the inspirational story of the astronauts of the hurried Mars Recovery mission, the almost insurmountable dangers that confront the heroic crew on their journey through space, and the amazing discovery they make when they finally reach the Red Planet.

MN Space Frontier, MN Astronomical Society and MARSCON were invited to put up a table display at the Twin City sneak preview to the movie 'Mission to Mars'. The sneak peak was at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. The event was hosted by General Cinema and was co-sponsored by Star Tribune.com, Nemer Fieger and Associates ad agency and KDWB radio station.

MN SFS Exec. Dir. and Asst. Dir. Ben Huset and his wife Becky staffed the display for MN SFS. Bill Willis, Christine LaBounty, Wayne McCloud, and Ron Searby staffed for MARSCON.

Much interest was expressed in the display by the movie audience and the Mars rover model was its very popular self. Many Mars Society Flyers and Space Station Lithos were passed out.

Good Story, Great Eye Candy and fairly realistic space hardware. The usual (hand waving on some of the tech/science) but they got the 'FEEL' right.
