Journalistic Report
11/12/2007

Thomas Hiriart

Once awoken and dressed, it was still dark out there. But the sun only needed a few minutes to show us a white and snowy version of the red planet. Our photographers were obviously unable to resist the temptation to climb to the Observatory to take some good pictures. Unfortunately, it also meant that by noon, the moody soil would prevent us from being dressed into our space suites to explore the surface of Mars. Even if the Crew is disappointed, and especially Catherine, our biologist, who will have to stay one more day without bringing back to the Hab a tone of rocks, the ambiance remains enjoyable!

After having turned the generator on and after a quick breakfast, Chris and I returned to our private living room, the Greenhab. At the end of the day, we have finally succeeded in cleaning the toilet water filter tanks. We may have needed to ask Catherine if we did not smell too bad and we might have had to take a cold shower. In fact, thank you Cath, it appears that our odour was ok.

During that time, Catherine was still so fascinated by these strange organisms called Halophiles that she officially began the first Martian Halophiles specialist! Ben has continued to map the Halophiles sampling sites, configure the Musk Observatory and, last but not least, put a beautiful red-green-blue flag at the top of the Hab. Our dear Commander, Jon, did some “Commander stuffs” like he said. More precisely, he worked on some engineering issues such as the oil leak from the generator or the installation of some fittings on the fuel line.

And this evening, everybody has been amazed to discover the incredible cooking skills of Chris. We really enjoyed the Chinese Pork Egg Rolls! And for now, it is time for your favourite Crew to go to the Observatory to keep an eye on the deep space. We will be watching you…
