But lets begin the story from the beginning. The weather forecast predicted some snow for the afternoon that is why we chose to go on EVA the morning. Catherine deeply wanted to go get some samples from three different Gypseum fields situated in the north. While Jon decided to stay here to continue to troubleshoot some engineering issues, Ben, Chris, Catherine and I went on EVA to find these little Halophiles. After two hours of intensive research, we came back to the Hab before the snow with a lot of samples supposed to welcome Halophiles. But we won't know which one is the winner before Cath analyses it in a couple of weeks. During this EVA, we used our pressurised rover, an expensive rental car, and we should thank Ben, our driver, for his pilot performance in the middle of the Martian hills.
Everything was going well until we met Jon, showing a bad face. The water pump was still not working, the new fittings for the generator fuel line did not solve the problem and in addition, the cold was threatening to crash the entire water supply system. I was a little bit disappointed but not for too long: it was my turn to cook and thanks to this new water restriction, we had not have any other choice than to eat sandwiches. Sorry guys, I will play the French Chef another time!
This afternoon, the atmosphere was serious and tense. A lot of engineering issues kept us very busy and the cold did not make it easier. Our main concern was to fix the pump in charge of transporting the potable water to the Hab and to keep the lines from freezing. Unfortunately, we were not successful and we are now trying to save water as much as possible. But do not be to worried for us guys, Jon just proposed a movie + beer party. Crew 62 is not going to lose faith!
