First of all, I would like to go back to yesterday night. It was so cool! Once we finished our reports to Mission Support, we joined Ben to the Observatory for an hour of stargazing. In spite of the cold (12°F), we were exited to see such a beautiful sky. Among others, we particularly enjoyed observing the brightness of Mars and the magnificence of the Orion’s Nebula. While two of us were using the telescope with our expert, Ben (Thanks Ben, it was great), the others were outside the observatory discussing life and watching the shooting stars. To prevent our feet from freezing, Jon and I made a yoga session in front of the Observatory. I also remember one of the jokes that he made. Sorry Jon, you have to tell them:
"So a Zen master was walking down the street, being a little hungry he stopped at a hotdog vendor on his way. He asked the vendor to make him one with everything."
It was definitely an unforgettable night.
This morning, Chris woke me up with a "The toilet flush does not work anymore". Without any coffee in my body, it was a painful way to wake up. The sun finally fixed this issue since it appears that the hoses froze during the night. During the breakfast, Jon held the daily briefing explaining that there would be an afternoon EVA dedicated to the research of Halophiles and continued work on the engineering projects through the morning. Also, we were affected by not being able to check our emails. NASA should organize a briefing for its astronauts on the subject "how to live without Internet"!
Actually, after having read the yesterday's Journalistic Report, you might think that everything has been fixed. Unfortunately, I began to believe that Ben and Jon are right when they say that there is always something to fix at MDRS! Again, we had trouble with the potable water supply. During a basic checkout, I noticed a significant leak on the potable water tank. We quickly transfer our water to another tank but it is still far away from the Hab. Since this event, we do not receive potable water in the Hab despite our efforts.
This afternoon, Jon and Catherine went on an EVA with the brand new ATVs that Don just delivered. We are so excited to use it, I am sure that Jon and Cath had a great time on it. They drove to Candor Chasma and spent a couple of hours looking for Halophiles. From my climber perspective, I wish I could have seen the Candor Chiasma's cliffs, it seems amazing! To say the truth, I had plans to make some climbing tests on EVA and Candor Chiasma was one of my potential sites. I'll keep this idea in mind for possible future missions.
