Journalist's Report
December 17, 2007
Thomas Hiriart

Today, we decided to take it easy and to have a kind of "Casual Friday". What, we are Monday? Hum.... we deserve it anyway! So this morning, everybody took time to do things we have not been able to do before, such as wake up without alarm, answer emails from wife, husband, girlfriend, family and friends, read books we were supposed to read when we get bored, try to find where the cooked mouse odour comes from (the answer is yes, we found life on Mars: mouse), brush our tooth (I am kidding...), and avoid to think about the lack of water problem. Seriously, it was great to rest a little bit. Still, Ben works on the Observatory and Chris and I kept an eye on the generator and the Greenhab while Catherine was talking with her Halophiles and Jon was trying to convince her that the Halophiles do not speak.

At noon, we quickly ate sandwiches. Jon was concerned by the fact that we still needed to pump the water from the outside tank to the Hab. The fact is we cannot do it in the morning as the hoses and water are frozen and we cannot do it after 4pm for the same reason. So we tried directly after lunch. And finally, after several days trying to get this water here in the Hab, we had the nice sound of the water flowing in the Hab tank. Don helped us to move the trailer tank closer to the Hab and we succeeded in pumping the water from there to inside the Hab. After that, everything has been easier. Today is the day during which Crew62 found water!

Then, Jon briefed Chris and I concerning the use of the two new ATVs. We drove it a couple of minutes. It was my first time with this kind of vehicle and given that I do not even have a driving license, it was a lot of fun! Chris and I also needed grey water to fill some tanks in the Greenhab. That is the reason why we forced everybody to take a shower. People did not complain too much! During the afternoon we also had the visit of three teenagers who were curious about what we were doing here. Nice to here them saying "You guys are so cool". Usually, I am more called a space geek than a cool guy! After that, we observed a beautiful Moon at the observatory then it was time for dinner.

Everything was going as usual but at one moment our dear Commander felt it was the perfect moment to begin a joke contest. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to talk about what happened. I can just tell you that Jon won the contest of the dirtiest joke. I probably won the contest of the international joke with my joke about Belgium people since Catherine could not remember any joke about French people. For consolation, Catherine decided it was time to make cookies. Right now, we are about to find a movie. I will tell you tomorrow if we chose the one with the blonde girl or the one with the ugly Martian!
